Correspondence, journals, personal account book, notes, photos, and scrapbooks concern activities, social customs, and relationships among the Gardiners. Letters from the related Perkins, Cary, Agassiz, and Cushing families are included, as well as a large number of letters written between 1853 and 1863 by Mary (Gardiner) [Mrs. William Nye] Davis to her parents, William H. and Caroline Perkins Gardiner and Davis's travel journals, scrapbooks, and unpublished writings, one of which is a story about New England life in the 19th century. Also included are 12 letters by Elizabeth Cabot (Cary) Agassiz and one by Louis Agassiz. Letters written between 1850 and 1870 contain family and travel news.
